Birthday Shower Cupcakes: Good Things Come In Small Packages!

I can think of no better way to celebrate the birth of a miniature person than with a miniature cake!  And, with all of the different variations of baby shower cupcakes, your guests will be oohing and ahhing when they see some of these fabulous creations!
One of my favorite baby shower cupcakes is the rattle.  Even though these are so simple to make, they really are adorable!  Here’s what you’ll need for this cupcake endeavor:

•    Standard-size cupcake pan

•    Cooling rack

•    Standard-size white cupcake baking cups

•    4 inch lollipop sticks

•    Spatula

•    Disposable decorating bags (mostly because I’m lazy!)

•    12 in. satin ribbon (1/4 in. wide) for each cupcake

•    Yellow candy melts

•    Buttercream frosting

•    Your favorite cupcake recipe (or a mix)

•    Peppermint or spearmint lifesavers

•    Pastel M & M’s

That list may seem daunting, but I promise- it’s easy once you get going!  First, make your cupcakes according to your recipe (or Ms. Crocker if you’re using a mix!) . Second, fill white cupcake liners 2/3 of the way full and bake according to the directions of your recipe.  Third, remove from oven and let cool completely on cooling rack.  Fourth, using a spatula, frost your cupcakes with white buttercream frosting.  Fifth, melt yellow candy melts in a microwave according to directions and place melted candy melts in decorator bag.  Pipe a zig-zag line across the middle of the cupcake.  You’ll have to work fast on this next step: Sixth, before the candy melts have had a chance to harden, place pastel M & M’s across the zig-zag band.  Seventh, attach Lifesaver candies to lollipop sticks with melted candy. And the final step, insert the lollipop stick into the cupcake and attach a ribbon, tying a bow, around each stick.

The rattle isn’t the only type of baby shower cupcakes that you can create, but they are, by far my favorite and very easy to create!   And, no doubt, your mom-to-be will be ga-ga over this adorable cupcake!
